How Many Carbs Should I Eat To Lose Weight?

The truth is there is no “magical” number that is right for everyone. Your age, body type, gender, current weight, and height will all influence how many carbs you should be eating per day. With that being said, there are some good guidelines that you can follow to help you determine exactly how many calories you should be eating per day to help you lose weight quickly. The first thing you should do is eliminate the worst type of carbs from your diet. These types of carbs are wheat and sugar (and yes this includes whole wheat). Even if you don’t count your carbs but eliminate those two things, you will be well on your way to losing a decent amount of weight.

Once you start to get used to going throughout your day without those foods, you can start counting your carbs. Start off by eating around 100 grams of carbs per day. This technically is considered moderate instead of low, but you don’t want to just jump straight into an extremely low carb diet without preparing your body first. For many of you, you will consistently lose weight by eating about 100 grams of carbs per day, if that is the case there is no need to continue decreasing the amount of carbs you eat.

For those of you who aren’t losing any weight by eating around 100 grams of carbs per day, lower it to around 50 grams. This is the point where you would officially be following a low carb diet. For most of you, you will probably never have to go lower than this, but some of you might want to lose weight a bit faster, if that is the case then you can go down to around 20 grams per day, but it is not recommended you go any lower than that because your body still does need some carbs to function properly.

It is important to understand the sources of where you are getting your carbs is just as important as the carbs you eat. If you are going to be following a low carb diet for the purpose of losing weight, you need to make sure you are eating healthy carbs. You should be getting your carb sources from veggies, fruits, and some starches such as sweet potatoes and rice.
